The MCCCD Official Course Description for MAT122 is as follows.
"Quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions and equations; graphs of quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions; equations quadratic in form; operations on rational expressions, radical expressions, and complex numbers; rational exponents; applications. Note: May receive credit for only one of the following: MAT120, MAT121, or MAT122. Prerequisites: Grade of B or better in MAT090, MAT091, MAT092, MAT093, or equivalent, or a satisfactory score on the District placement exam."The MCCCD Official Course Competencies for MAT122 are as follows.
1. Use function notation. 2. Solve quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. 3. Solve equations quadratic in form. 4. Solve rational and radical equations. 5. Perform operations on complex numbers. 6. Perform operations on radical and rational expressions. 7. Simplify radical and rational expressions. 8. Simplify expressions involving rational exponents. 9. Graph quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. 10. Identify the domain of quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions. 11. Rewrite logarithmic expressions using the properties of logarithms. 12. Evaluate formulas involving exponential or logarithmic expressions. 13. A total of 100 points can be earned during the semester. Assessments totalling 60 points are given periodically and the departmental final exam is worth 40 points.

90 points or above........ A [excellent] 80 points to 89.99........ B [above average] 70 points to 79.99........ C [average] 60 points to 69.99........ D [below average] below 60 points........... F [fail]
Class begins promptly at its scheduled start time.
Attendance is not required; however, it is strongly recommended that every class be attended.
This course is supported by a website containing lecture notes, handouts, and math resources. This course can be successfully completed without using the website; the website is an extra tool provided to help with learning about introductory algebra.
The required textbook for this course is "Mathematics In Action (Algebraic and Graphical Problem Solving)." The book is available at the SCC bookstore.
