Estimate and round. 3. Identify properties of real numbers. 4. Evaluate arithmetic expressions involving exponents and square roots. 5. Convert between decimals, fractions, and percents. 6. Solve application problems using proportions and percents. 7. Construct and interpret line, bar, and circle graphs. 8. Determine and interpret the mean, median, and mode for sets of data. 9. Read and interpret measurement scales. 10. Identify and describe geometric figures including squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles. 11. Solve application problems using geometric formulas. 12. Convert within and between U.S. and metric measurement systems. 13. Model and solve real world problems.
The text book "Basic Mathematics" by Akst and Bragg is required for this course and it is available at the SCC bookstore.
A total of 100 points can be earned during the span of the semester.
60 points... collection of assessments given on an as needed basis 40 points... MAT082 departmental final examThe following scale will be used to map points into final letter grade.
90 points or above........ A [excellent] 80 points to 89.99........ B [above average] 70 points to 79.99........ C [average] 60 points to 69.99........ D [below average] below 60 points........... F [fail]
Class begins promptly at its scheduled start time.
Attendance is not required; however, it is strongly recommended that every class be attended.
This course is supported by a website containing lecture notes, handouts, and math resources. This course can be successfully completed without using the website; it is an extra tool provided to help with learning about basic arithmetic.
